How to keep your hair healthy between salon visits

You know that feeling when you leave the salon with fresh, healthy, gorgeous hair? There's nothing like it. But between busy schedules, heat styling, and daily life, keeping that salon-perfect look can feel like a challenge. The good news? With just a few simple habits, you can protect your hair and keep it looking (and feeling) amazing between appointments. Here are my top pro tips for maintaining strong, healthy hair all year long — and getting the most out of every salon visit!

  1. Using salon-quality shampoo & conditioner

Not all hair products are created equal! By using high quality shampoos and conditioners, you can preserve your color, maintain hydration and shine, and strengthen your strands.

  2. Minimize heat styling

Heat is a big culprit behind damaged hair. Heat can cause damage and breakage. Try to limit your curling ironing, flat ironing and blowdrying and opt for heatless styles when you can - and make sure you are always using a heat protectant! Your future self (and strands) will thank you!

  3. Schedule regular trims

Whenever someone in my chair gets a haircut, I always ask if they want to pre-book their next appointment, and recommend between 6-12 weeks depending on their look. I don’t do this to force you to come back to me, but to make sure you are keeping up with your maintenance. These cuts prevent split and dry ends from forming. Waiting too long for your next cut can lead to split ends from traveling up your hair shaft and needing to cut more length than you want at your next cut!

  4. Weekly deep conditioning

Treat yo’ self to a luxurious deep conditioning treatment at home once a week. These treatments add moisture, shine and strength.

  5. Protect your hair at night

Cotton pillowcases cause friction, breakage, and retains bacteria while you’re sleeping. I always recommend a silk pillowcase for their antimicrobial properties as well as creating a soft surface for your hair. You can always wrap in a silk bonnet for extra protection. Also never go to bed with your hair wet! It will also cause breakage due to it being in its most fragile state.

  6. Avoid over-washing

Washing your hair too often can strip your hair of the natural oils you produce that help nourish your scalp and strands. Always wash your hair as often as you think necessary, but try to go at least 2 days between washes, and use dry shampoo or slick-back styles to get you between washes.

  7. Stay hydrated & eat well

Beautiful hair starts from within, and what you put in your body comes through in your skin and hair. Drinking plenty of water and having a nutrient-rich diet can make a huge difference in the strength, shine, and growth of your hair.

Healthy hair starts with expert care. If you have questions about the best products or treatments for your hair type, I’m always here to help! Click here to schedule your next visit.
